This is my February of 1968 Squareback, model 365. This car is very original and is a survivor. I purchased it from the original owner who bought it new at Mill Valley Volkswagen.

This is a low mile local car that never left the SF Bay Area, and was garaged most of its life when not parked on busy San Francisco streets. The speedometer currently reads 72,000 miles but has rolled over, so car has about 170k miles. The motor was rebuilt at 98k, so has about 74k on it.

The pans are extremely solid, never replaced. No rust anywhere, except the typical minor rust in the battery tray, and a spot less than the size of a penny under each headlight bucket, extremely common on Type 3’s. Bumpers are the originals and are very presentable, but show their wear from city street parking.

Body is very straight, with some minor dings and battle scars, again from major city street parking. Doors, fenders, hood, decklid are all solid. This car has never been in an accident. Both aprons are extremely clean and solid.

The paint is L620 Savannah Beige, and is the original paint which is in remarkable shape with a nice mild patina on roof and hood. The rear hatch was resprayed at one point, but was stripped back down to the original revealing minor bodywork at the bottom of hatch. Hatch is in great shape and looks great, looks like patina which blends in.

Some people would repaint or restore this car, but nowadays the original patina look is all the rage and I would strongly suggest that this car is preserved in its original finish and not painted, though that is your choice. The paint was buffed out last April before show season, and came out very glossy! The car gets lots of stares, waves, yells, attention as-is. It was an attention grabber at all the shows this season, and took a dozen awards at various Northern California VW shows.

The best part is that everything works. Yes, everything! Even the heater! It gets so hot that you have to turn it off after a minute, and the windshield defrosts quickly. All lights, horn, wipers, signals, even dome light, and AM/FM radio work!

The engine has ONLY 74,000 miles on it and is a 1600 dual port with new T3 dual carbs and 009 distributor, both from Empi. Engine runs very smooth. I recently did a full tune up on it, I work for a well known reputable VW restoration shop. Brakes are older but do their job and work fine, no problems. Transmission is fine. Shifts smooth, no griding or popping out of gear. Tires are BRAND NEW 165 radials. Car cruises smooth at 65, but will go faster.

The interior is very clean and original. Door panels are very nice originals. Seat covers appear to be the originals, with wear but in presentable shape. Headliner is the original in great shape with a minor tear near the front. Two brand new rear hatch hinge covers from ISP West have been installed and really give it that fresh look in the rear of headliner. Dash has 2 minor cracks which is common for T3’s but does not detract the appearance. It proudly displays its clean functioning gauges and accessory clock (although clock is not currently working, I have not looked at it yet).

All the carpeting is the original, untouched and very nice. Front trunk has a very clean original liner. Also has the original jack and spare rim with bias ply tire. The original and VERY hard to find foam block inside the front apron is present.

The car has several accesories including the AM/FM radio, clock, beauty rings, euro taillights, and EXTREMELY hard to find roof rack. I will sell the car with or without the roof rack, and will adjust the price accordingly. Car also has its original black license plates which are included.

I’ve tried to mention as much as I can and describe as accurately as possible the condition of this squareback. It is a very clean survivor that will bring much joy and memories to its new owner, and will no doubt remain a strong competitor in class at shows.

Finding an untouched VW is difficult today. I am asking $5k. I don’t need any time wasters or tire kickers. Serious interested parties ONLY. I am not interested in any trades. Squareback has clean title, currently registered. Sold as-is, no warranty or guarantee on anything.

If you are interested and would like to schedule an appointment to view the vehicle, or have any inquiries, want additional pics, etc… Please call or email me. International buyers welcome. I would prefer that you arrange the shipping, but if need be I can assist. Vehicle is located in Berkeley, Ca. Nearest port is Oakland.

Thanks for your interest!
