For Sale, 1971 VW Bus Walk-Through Dormobile Pop Up Camper
Price SOLD
Buy Classic Volks – Volkswagen Dormobile Camper for sale Colorado Springs, US. Year Construction 1971 on Excellent condition. This is one of the best early Bay Window VW Campers you can get, and it’s in really great shape. This Bus is ready to go camping, or to a show, and do great at either. 1971 is the year that still has the Type 1 Engine, but the only early Baywindow with disc brakes. This one has been gone through, stem to stern, and lots and lots of money spent. It isn’t a 100 point concours winner, but it’s worth a lot more than the asking price, as anyone that has been looking or restoring will tell you.

The body is excellent. Newer paint with all good glass and new rubber seals, etc. Wipers even work well and are new. Upholstery throughout the Bus is excellent. Camper cots are great and work well, Dormobile pop top is great, canvas is great, includes child cot.
The transmission shifts great and has new shifter bushings, etc. New wheel bearings front and rear. New shocks. Brakes work excellent. Ball joints, shocks, etc are excellent. Tires are almost new. The engine is a very well built and expensive 1835 — counterwighted crankshaft, big valve heads, mild cam, 44mm Empi Kadrons with electric chokes (starts right up cold or hot), extractor exhaust. You can keep up with traffic or even pass some of them!
All the gauges and lights work, it even has the VDO Clock — that works! It as a receiver hitch for a bike rack, a front luggage rack, etc. It is ready to be used as a camper, daily driver or show vehicle. The only negatives are the rockers — the body shop that did the paint put a little too much bondo on them, even though the underside is really solid. With that in mind, the price is reduced to compensate for the less than perfect rockers, not knowing if the metal is fine or would need replacement. But that is the only caveat. Otherwise, it’s one of the best and most solid 40+ year old VW’s you can buy.
Price what it costs to buy an early Bay Dormobile (much more rare than a Westfalia), restore the body and driveline, all the rubber and glass, and even if you didn’t pay for the labor it would cost more than this! Be ready to wave at people that smile and wave at you — everyone loves this bus, in the campground or at the gas station or on the road.
Split window double cabs considered for partial trades.
